Worshiping God Is Honoring God Above Yourself In Every Area Of Life

Worship happens as we choose to align our heart with the truth of who God is. One of the many powerful expression of worship happens through music. Romans 12:1  says, “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” (see also: Hebrews 13:15-16; Romans 11:36; Genesis 22:5; Psalm 24:1: 1 Corinthians 10:26-31)

God does not command us to kill ourselves or to kill animals for Him, but God does call us to live a life of sacrifice for His Glory. What does a life of sacrifice actually look like?

Worship Happens As We Choose To Align Our Heart With The Truth Of Who HE IS

Psalm 103:1-5 says, “Bless the Lord, O my soul and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” (see also: Joshua 1:6-9; Deuteronomy 29:29)

What does it look like for you to, like David, command your heart to bless God?

One Powerful Expression Of Worship Happens Through Music

Revelation 14:1-3 says, “Then I looked, and behold, on Mount Zion stood the Lamb, and with Him 144,000 who had His name and His Father’s name written on their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven like the roar of many waters and like the sound of loud thunder. The voice I heard was like the sound of harpists playing on their harps, and they were singing a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and before the elders. No one could learn that song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth.”

(see also: Psalm 98:1; Psalm 96:1; Psalm 144:9; Psalm 30:11-12; Psalm 16:9; Psalm 108:1; Psalm 43:4; Psalm 150:3; 2 Chronicles 29:25; Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16)

How does the fact that musical worship is happening in heaven affect how we should approach musical worship in our time on earth?

It’s One Thing To Know About Worship. It’s Another Thing To Apply It To Your Life

Think about the major areas of your life (relationships, thoughts, decision making, time management, finances, attitudes) and ask the question – are you seeking to worship God in each area? If not, what needs to change?

Take time everyday to actively recall who God is. Each day take 5 minutes to remind yourself out loud who God is, and also text, call, or email one other person encouraging them in who God is.

Enter your personal and corporate worship times from the perspective that you are joining heaven in worshiping Jesus. Let your perspective shape your physical posture.
